Super simple microwave baked apples
Tags:dessert gluten free vegan vegetarianThis is an incredible easy and simple dessert. Cut up apples and put them in a covered, microwave-safe dish. Add about 1 TBSP brown sugar per apple, and spice with cinnamon and allspice. Throw in dried cranberries, raisins, or granola if you want. Microwave for about 6 minutes (maybe two minutes per apple), stopping to stir halfway. It’s almost like having apple strudel with no work.
What does 50 euros buy in groceries?

This plus two more twin-packs of gluten-free bread. At de Tuinen (a natural food store), there was a buy 2 get 1 free mix-and-match sale, so I bought a bunch of trail mix (elite haver) cheaper than at the market — about 8,50 EUR a kilo with cranberries :) Plus ham and cheese were on sale at the Albert Heijn, so I got some :)
Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama’s Wrist Strong Bracelet, and Democratic Pollsters
Tags:politicsAl Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize this morning along with the United Nation’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Congratulations — and I think the peace prize is appropriate. Fixing climate change now is a preemptive strike to prevent climate conflict in the future. BTW, the ice in Greenland is melting at an unprecedented rate. Now Al Gore has won an Emmy, an Oscar, and a Nobel Prize — how many people have done that? There’s some speculation (http://draftgore.com/) that the win of the Nobel Prize will motivate Gore to aim for the larger prize of the White House. It isn’t too late to enter the race — but it sure feels like it. They’ve been campaigning forever!! I’m doubtful that he’ll enter, since he’s said publicly multiple times that he does not want to. I’m sure he also would not want his soul crushed twice in his life… 2000 must have been more than enough.

On the fake news front, Barack Obama is the latest celebrity to wear Stephen Colbert’s wrist strong bracelet supporting wrist injury awareness. Just another reason to vote for him in my opinion… don’t you want a president who understand what’s going on in varying demographics around the country? He is the student’s candidate. Anyway, the Hillary Clinton juggernaut keeps rolling on, and everyone won’t stop referring to her as “the clear front runner.” However, Iowa looks like a close three-way race right now. Also, consider some of the latest polling data (% of all American adults who consider the candidate favorable vs unfavorable):
Favorable - Unfavorable Ratings
All Adults (n=1,010)
Obama: 54% - 27%
Clinton: 51% - 44%
Edwards: 48% - 31%
Obviously, Clinton is a much more unpopular candidate among the right than Obama is, and that could very easily determine the general election in 2008. Democrats should seriously consider that fact when voting.
In other news, did you hear that Ann Coulter is an anti-Semite?
